But just what is a ladyboy friendly hotel?

A hotel that is considered guest or bargirl friendly simply means that the joint won’t charge extra for taking back a ladyboy guest back up to your room at night. A joiner fee can cost anywhere around 500 to 2000 THB a night but could be even higher depending on the hotel. So if you unknowingly book a non-guest friendly hotel and plan on taking a guest back up to your room everyday for a week then you’re going to be paying a lot more money unnecessarily. This is by no means an indication of their respectability as each hotel has different policies as long as you’re somewhat discreet.

Where can I meet ladyboys in Koh Samui?

CHAWENG

Street Action

Downtown Chaweng is your best bet to meet some ladyboys along the main street and Soi Green Mango intersection. You will find freelancers readily available around these streets and in many of the bars and discos of that area but they only tend to show up late at night when the party is already well under way.

Bars & Discos

• Green Mango Club: This is Samui’s main nightclub, opens at 8PM  but usually doesn’t get lively before midnight. Lots of ladyboys hang in and around the club once it starts packing.
• Sweet Soul Café: Located just next to it’s sister business, the Green Mango Club. A great place to go if you want to party the night out away but not somewhere for a relaxed atmosphere.
• Sound Club: Located in the Soi just behind Gree Mango this one only gets kicking around 2AM.
• Reggae Pub: Another Samui institution with a more chill vibe to it located across Chaweng lake. I have been informed they finally lifted a 25 year ban on ladyboys entering the club so you might find a few here nowadays as well or along the beer bars of Soi Reggae leading to it.

LAMAI

After Chaweng, Lamai is the second most popular resort in Samui. Near the McDonalds in the centre of town you will find a large number of girlie bars that all compete for customers with the usual cacophony of music and catcalls. This would be your best bet to find ladyboys working either in the bars or freelancers in the area that often hang around their motorbikes at night.

• Billabong bar: One of the ladyboy beer bars in the center of Lamai. Look around there are a few!
